Collaborate for a Cause

I've been busy over the last couple of months. Doing something completely different! I teamed up with the ever so beautiful (nature, soul and person) Mel from Handmade by 3 Little Bs to create this collection for the Collaborate for a Cause auction.

A little red with the complete range

Our chosen charity is Pregnancy Loss Australia formely Teddy Love Club (website and Facebook). Pregnancy Loss Australia is a national support program for bereaved families who suffer the loss of their baby or babies from miscarriage, stillbirth, termination for feotal abnormality and neo natal loss.

Our gorgeous volunteer 2 year old Red!
We selected Walk in the Woods by Aneela Hoey for Moda Fabrics to create a bedroom suite for a little girl who has grown out of that 'nursery' age or maybe even a little older. I love that it isn't all pink and flowery, the soft blues and greys really look lovely together with the pink and white.
Sprocket cushion and bunting
I made the quilt which will fit a single or king single with overhang or would lay flat on a double bed. It is 59 inches wide (about 150 cm) by 79 inches long (about 200 cm). Yes it is big!

Square cushion
Mel made the cushions and bunting. I love the beautiful square cushion as it shows the full design of the Little Red fabric. The Sprocket cushion is fantastic. Really shows off the grey, blue and grey fabrics - don't you think.

The bunting is made with just the pink fabrics and finished with vintage binding. Totally cute!
Quilt is made with 10 inch squares
And no Little Red bedroom range would be complete without your very own vintage Little Red Riding Hood books. These will be sent along with the quilt, square cushion, sprocket cushion and bunting.
Vintage Little Red Riding Hood books

I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of this little collection. I haven't done a quilt of this size before so it was certainly a challenge. I'm looking forward to making ones for my little owlets (both in progress!) and will both need to be a similar size. Huge!

It was an absolute pleasure working with Mel. We clicked on so many levels. Just naturally agreed what we wanted to do, what fabrics we loved and it all just went from there. Thank you beautiful girl x

Thank you to Leanne Whitely Photography for taking these beautiful photos for us. Leanne is located in Echuca and available for wedding and portrait photos.

You can find our submission here. Bidding starts at 8 pm Friday 27 July and ends 8 pm Sunday 29 July.

Wish us luck!

Blogs I love - Craftiness is not optional

Last week I shared a new blog that I discovered, this week I share one that I have loved for a long, long time.

Craftiness is not optional is probably my all time favourite blog. I have pinned practically all of Jess' tutorials and actually made many (shock, horror).  And yes, I have actually emailed her to say how much I love her (ha ha ha).

Jess shares many, many wonderful tutorials for free. Her blog is full of sewing, craft, parties and giveaways. Pregnant with baby girl number 3, I simply can't wait to follow her journey as she creates a new nursery and plans all the wonderful projects.

Some favourites that I've made are:

Source: I've put these on clips (so cute)

Source: I made these in red and green
for Christmas brooches

Some I would love to make:

Source: I *need* to try knits (runs scared)
Source: I love the bow pockets!

Source: I want to make this for Christmas presents
 Enjoy

My new hat

I mentioned I bought a new hat at the South Melbourne markets on our night away

It has not been easy to get a good photo. Mr Owl and I tried this morning but it was too dark and overcast. The best I could do is here at work.

What do you think? It is 100% wool felt and my favourite colour!

Blogs I love - Be a fun mum

I'll admit I'm a huge blog reader. My Google Reader is seriously out.of.control!! But I love them. I have a few that I read religiously and thought I would profile them over the coming weeks. Although the first blog is a brand new find!

Be a fun mum is a fantastic blog by a Brisbane (Australia!) based mother of four.
I'm sure many of you already know about this blog but oh boy what a discovery. There are so many wonderful ideas and so many things I want to do like:

Make veggie filled Chicken Meatballs

Do family artwork for the wall (even I could do this!)
Take photos of sparklers. My kids would love this!
I hope you enjoy my find and I'm looking forward to sharing more with you over the coming weeks.

Enjoy

Our night away ...

So I seemed to get over my guilt pretty quickly last week!

I surprised my husband with a night away. I told him to take the Friday off work (so he knew something was happening), to pack an overnight bag with clothes and then I would send him details and instructions when he got into the city.

His manager was so excited, she let him leave work a little earlier with orders to let her know what was happening when he found out! How funny!

I'd organised to stay the night at Sofitel on Collins in Melbourne.  I wanted something 5 star luxury that wouldn't break the bank and oh boy I was not disappointed.
Watching the night fall overlooking Parliment,
heading up Nicholson Street
I guess it pays to babble about celebrating your 7 year wedding anniversary and having a rare (very, very rare) night away with your husband, as when I checked in they upgraded us to a luxury corner suite and delivered us a bottle of champagne to celebrate.

View of the MCG and the river
We took our time getting ready (including an uninterrupted bubble bath for me!) and then walked to our dinner reservation at Gingerboy. I didn't get any photos (too busy eating) but we both enjoyed the banquet having the crispy chilli salt cuttlefish, lemon and roasted sesame and the famous son in law eggs to start (imagine a soft egg exploding in your mouth as you eat it whole!), followed by roasted hapuka, bandit sauce, zucchini fritters, fennel and citrus salad, and the red duck leg curry, thai basil and coconut cream for main served with spicy green papaya salad with dried shrimps, chilli, mint and coriander and crispy fried sweet corn cakes. We finished with a desert share plate. Needless to say, we didn't do much more than taste each sample.

Our king sized bed
Thankfully, we didn't have far to walk back before collasping in our huge king sized bed (6" 5in Mr Owl enjoys the extra leg room).

As check out wasn't until 11am, we took our time getting ready before leaving the next morning. I saw the cast of the Sunrise breakfast program arriving as we left. So cool to see 'celebrities'. (cough cough I don't actually watch it). Kochie is exactly as you would expect. Melissa Doyle is really tall and skinny! And Natalie Barr was there too. They had two hair and make up stylists and were off to get ready for another event later that morning. Ok, ok, I was eavesdropping the entire time! They seemed lovely and very easy going. Nice the think they aren't drama queens!

Caffe Panette in South Melbourne
Mr Owl and I then headed off to a favourite breakfast haunt that we used to go to all the time prior to children. We regularly do breakfast out with the kids but there is a lot to be said about breakfast without any interruptions, toilet trips, toys on the floor, slow eating, requests for more baby chinos and well, surely you get my point!

Hot coffee what a novelty!
After breakfast, we took a quick stroll around the markets and bought a couple of presents for the kids and a new hat for me (I'll show a photo in another post!). Then it was off home and back to reality.

Quick browse through the South Melbourne Markets
While we couldn't do this all the time (lack of funds and live in babysitter!), we are certainly planning to do this again. Maybe when Grammy comes to visit for school holidays again next year!

Is it just me ...

that feels guilty when I do things for me? I feel like everything I do is for my owlets. In some ways I've lost my own identity now. I'm so wrapped up in being 'mum'. Don't get me wrong, I adore the role and don't for a single second regret what I do for them, I just miss me a little.

Tonight I'm surprising my hubby with a dinner and night away. Can't give it away (no idea if he reads my blog lol) so I'll be back to share the details with you after. I'm so looking forward to 24 hours of peace. Ok I do intend on talking to my husband but he doesn't demand a drink of water, help to 'wipe my bomb' after going to the toilet (thank god!), complains about when dinner will be ready or wakes me up at some insane hour.

So why am I feeling guilty that we are doing something for us? And why should I? Shouldn't I be allowed to just enjoy this short time away.

Right. Guilt trip over. I'm going to enjoy it and not think about them. Well not much ;)

Words of wisdom
