Lost

A few weeks ago, I had news that rocked me to the core. Makes you rethink everything you consider right and good the world. Question your loyalty and honestly question why we even bother.

We are better now, spending more time together as a family. We are happy and healthy and everything will be good again, soon.

On the upside, I am spending more time creating. Getting quite a few of the little 'I'll get around to it' jobs finished. Simple things like dropping the hem on some pjs I made my little Miss. She really must have grown this winter (or the material shrunk a little more, probably both!).

So sorry for the neglected blog and neglected Facebook page. I'm sure you will understand when my priorities are elsewhere.

I'll update again soon with my birthday celebrations, I was very spoilt and had a wonderful day!

To Blythe or not to Blythe?

So thanks to Jannelle Wind and her gorgeous Crafty Girl, Emily - I'm starting to get a little obsessed with Blythe dolls.

I rather like Phoebe Maybe mainly because of her beautiful long red hair - just like mine and nothing like my two owlets ended up with! But I will admit, I don't know where to start or what to do when it comes to these amazing dolls. Perhaps I need to join the We play with dolls forum but that seems like a bit much just for a doll.I'm guessing since they are a relatively new release, the price on eBay is reasonable? Thank goodness I don't lust after one of the original vintage ones like this one. I don't think Hubby Owl would agree to spending $4,700 + on a doll!

I simply love the idea of collecting a doll or two (that would be worth a lot in the future) and making little things or collecting little outfits, that I could then pass on to my little owlet in the future (at just 2 years, I'm not trusting her with her own!).

So can anyone help me on my Blythe quest?

Party Planning

I love it. The brainstorming, the planning, the invitations, the party games, decorations and baking. I just love the creative outlet. I'm a mean mummy and even 'steer' my little owlets towards certain themes!!

So Master soon to be 5 will be having his birthday in October. It is an alien theme. Here are a few ideas (thank you Pinterest!).
Softie from Melly and Me
I love the ease of this cake! So cool!

Miss 2 is turning 3 in February. Yes people, I'm already thinking that far ahead! She adores dancing and thinks she is a ballerina. I know she would love a ballerina party but we might save that for after she actually starts lessons next year! Instead, I think we might have a princess party. That way we can have a prince and princess party to involve her big brother!

Here is some of the inspiration:

The Party Princesses in the UK
So am I the only one that plans birthday parties to the finest detail? (Oh for the record my owlets only get a 'big' party every second year, alternative years are just small, family or one or two friends affairs).

Feel free to share your alien/space or princess party ideas. I'm still in idea stage!!

Celebrating with ...

LA Crafts

This month I celebrate my first birthday (and my own birthday but that's another blog post!). I'm celebrating with my friends and suppliers of all owly goodness. The first is Amanda from LA Crafts.

Amanda is a gorgeous girl who lives in the middle of nowhere! I was so lucky to meet her when I went on a craft retreat in May. Here she shares a little about herself.

Jane: Tell me a little about you?
AmandaI am a stay at home mum to Sophie, 2 ½. I live in rural South Australia in a community surrounded by a gorgeous river, vineyards and a nice relaxed atmosphere. I started my business after my daughter was born and I wanted unique pieces of clothing and accessories for her and not the commercial items that are around everywhere.

J: How did LA Crafts come about?
A: I started making a few things for Sophie, more and more family and friends kept asking for them and then someone suggested I started selling, so I guess you could say it wasn’t my idea but I am happy I had the encouragement from family and friends to push me in this direction

J: What is your biggest, creative achievement (share photos if you can)?
A: The items I am most proud of at the moment is my vests. It took quite a few trys at the zips and fit to get things right, I am very suprised at how popular they have been. (J: I'm not! They are gorgeous!)

J: Living in the Riverland of SA, what are your challenges?
A: The main challenge of living in a rural community is that it is hard to find everything you need, my local fabrics stores are a great help with common products that I need but don't stock everything I need to run La Crafts, so therefore I need to order online and wait for the items to arrive.

J: What would you like to be doing in 5 years?
A: I would still love to be doing what I am now with La Crafts but have a greater customer base and hopefully become too busy to do it all myself and to employ other stay at home mums.

J: What’s next for your business? Any new and exciting things for Spring/Summer?
A: I am currently working on a new Ruffle Top, a romper for the little men in your life and re-vamping some of the older styles. There will also be some new dresses in the Spring/Summer range, although not new to the handmade community, I feel with these additions I can cater for a broader range.

J: Finally, what do you think would make a good Boobook name? (or a few!)
A: At the moment the name that comes to mind is Joy- as I think the Boobooks will provide many hours of fun & joy for your little one. Joy is also my treasured Aunts name.

Thank you Amanda for sharing a little about you!

Enjoy

Happy Birthday to me (well Lil Pip!)

Source: Pinterest or Original

Today is Lil Pip's birthday. So much has happened in the last 12 months - all the learning curves, successes (and probably a few failures!), ups and downs of starting and running my own business. I've made nearly 200 Boobook ribbon taggies (yikes!) and still love playing with all the beautiful fabrics and ribbons.

I'm grateful to every single one of my lovely customers - thank you to each of you!

I'm thrilled to have met (virtually and in person) so many wonderful, supportive and inspiring women.

Thank you for loving what I do, so I can keep on doing it!

To celebrate, I will be having specials and discounts through the entire month of August so stay tuned.
Enjoy
