National Bandanna Day: 26 October

I grew up as a teenager knowing all about the wonderful work of CanTeen Australia and regularly donned a bandanna for National Bandanna Day.

This year they have really stepped it up a notch and launched Bandanna Art, an iPhone and iPad app that has been created and developed by Tribal DDB and CanTeen. The world-first app allows people to design a 100% customised bandanna that is then delivered to their door, with all proceeds going to CanTeen.
Bandanna Art, Ken Done style!!

CanTeen is an Australian organisation that supports and empowers young people living with cancer. Each year, to raise funds and awareness, the organisation holds National Bandanna Day on the 26th October — a day where people show their support by purchasing and wearing a bandanna. We’ve seen first hand the great work CanTeen does for young people and it really is an amazing organisation that needs your support.

The app is a great utility by itself, but as a supporting device and accompaniment to National Bandanna Day, it’s inspiring. The video featured on the website explains a little about how Bandanna Art is a great progression for CanTeen and National Bandanna Day.

Design created by supporter

The app is free to download and use, you can create as many bandannas as you like and share them. If you would like to buy your bandanna you can do that too, each bandanna is $19.95. There are also lots of bandannas in the online web gallery that you can buy.

Its a world-first to use an iOS  app to create a printed real world item that is 100% unique.

Search for 'Bandanna Art’ in the App Store or via the website

I know what I'll be doing this week with my kids!

20 days to Organise and Clean your Home

Recently discovered this (a little late I know!). I don't have an issue with cleaning but my house is drowning under clutter. Ok it isn't quite that bad but I keep putting it off 'until school holidays'.... 'next weekend'....'after Christmas'.... Sound familar?

I'm not sure I'll be able to do it every single day (I work 4 days a week and hubby travels a bit for work) but I would like to keep to the schedule as much as possible.

I'll try to do a 'week in review' and update you on my progress. I don't think you need to see horrible 'before' and sparkling 'after' photos of every single room but I guess if I can motivate a few others with my progress then that is good, right?

I would really love to get rid of some old things - double stroller anyone? - and make some space in our little, tiny house!

Anyone else doing it or something similar? Anyone want to join me?

Non-destructive toys!

On display at market

Who would have thought it was possible to give a little boy (or girl) a hammer that wouldn't do any damage?
Don't they look great grouped together
Thanks to the beautiful Bel from Little Sew & Sews (Facebook here or website here) you can. She made this amazing pattern and I've been itching to try it.
A dodgy late night, in progress photo - I was too excited!
I made mine a little differently - with a 'feature' hammer including a rattle for realistic sounding of banging in that nail and coordinating drill wrench and screwdriver.

Too cute!
Perfect for any boy or girl

Find them at my upcoming markets - Flemington Craft Market, Saturday 17 November and Maribyrnong Makers Market, Saturday 24 November.

If you want to try to make one yourself - head over to Belinda's website to buy the pdf pattern.

Market round up

I almost didn't post about this one, but you gotta blog about the good and the bad right?

My new marquee - so much space!
I went to Werribee Craft Market on the weekend. I was so excited to go to this huge market in such a great location (right next to Werribee Mansion - beautiful!).

I was up super early (well 5.45 am) and out the door at 6.15 am. Had packed the car, my snacks and lunch the night before so it was pretty easy to just get up, dress and go. I even made my breakfast the night before.

My new bigger table (the one to the side is what I usually use)

I was all set up with time to spare by 7.50am. The market started at 8am. I thought that was rather early but who am I to question the experts! There was prediction of showers throughout the day and I think there was a few but otherwise it was glorious sunshine most of the day. There was amazing stallholders, creators, designs and foodies. So much to choose from. It is hard not to be overwhelmed by the wonderful displays of handmade.

Lots of new dresses

BUT people just weren't buying. There were plenty of people wandering around but just not buying.

Now I'm not sure if I should go back in December. Perhaps most people were scoping for Christmas but not buying? But it just doesn't make financial sense for me when I didn't even sell enough to cover my market fee. And that isn't even factoring in the cost of materials plus the better part of day away from my family, petrol etc.
Boobooks galore!

What do you think?

Lil Pip Spring / Summer Collection

I gave you a little sneak peak of my Spring/Summer collection here and questioned the sanity of having a photoshoot with two little 3.5 year old Princesses!

Pink peasant, size 00-5

I've been working so hard over the last couple of months on my Spring/Summer Collection. And here are the results.
Pink and floral peasant, size 00-5
Now I need to work on expanding the sizes I have available for the markets. At the moment I have lots of size 3 and 4 (the sizes of my models!). After a crazy busy school holidays (when I was hoping to sew lots!), I will work on that in the next month.

Market round up

Gosh in the theme of being delayed, here is my market round up from my last market - the Maribyrnong Makers Market on Saturday 15 September. Although there were predictions of showers, the rain held off and and we had a beautiful day.

I was fortunate to have some photos taken by the very talented Narelle Browne (find here on Facebook here and online here).

I just love how bright my Boobooks look! I've made so many new ones - with different colours and designs. Certainly something for everyone here!

My new Spring/Summer dresses look so great lined up on the clothing rack.

I love my little Babuska dolls. I really should make some more!

But I think my favourites are the little taggy owls. Some have rattles and some don't - cause not everything should make noise. Don't worry they kind just tinkle rather than rattle. I don't think handmade toys should be loud and annoying!

Not to forget the mummies who visit my stand - a few pretty flowers, perfect to add to your hair or lapel. In fact, I have one on today!

My next market is this Saturday 13 October, 8 am - 1 pm at the Werribee Park Markets. I can't wait to set up in the shadow of Werribee mansion. What a setting right?

Enjoy!
