Words of wisdom

There is no royal, flower-strewn path to success. And if there is, I have not found it. For if I have accomplished anything in life, it is because I have been willing to work hard. – C.J. Walker

Pin it Friday

I'm so slack, I haven't posted a Pin it Friday for ages. Sure as heck, I'm still pinning!

Source: $5 pattern sale so bought these for
Miss 3 to make for summer

Source: I'm planning on making these for Christmas markets. Cute?

Source: I would LOVE to have one of these. Not too hard to
make but I don't even have room to put it anywhere!

Source: I so want to try this for a few of Master 5's pants.
He is going up but not out!

Source: Master 5 has decided on a Lego themed party this year. FUN!
I'm just pinning away as I see things.
What style of pinner are you?
a) Go to Pinterest and just pin things your friends have
b) Go to Pinterest and search for something you want
c) Pin as you go from blogs or websites you visit

I'm more an option c to be honest. I don't go into Pinterest on a daily basis but I'm forever pinning things from blogs so I don't forget about them and can find them when I want to.

Calling all pattern designers or purchasers!

I'm thinking of designing some patterns. It is something I've been thinking of doing for a long time, just keep putting it off. I have so many ideas in my head that I know I'll never have time to make them all myself. I would love put them to paper (or rather file) and see people create them out there in the big wide world.

The first would be my Boobook ribbon owl. I'm still selling these like hotcakes at markets. Everyone loves them. Would this be something you would like to make yourself at home?

Then after that, the possibilities are endless! And I guess it depends on the success of my first outing.

Now a few questions:
  1. Is there any special programs that I should look at (I'm not a designer!)? I do have InDesign (easier), Photoshop, Illustrator (no idea!) and of course good old word.
  2. What do you love most in a pattern/tutorial (for me it is lots of pictures!)?
  3. Where is the best place to sell patterns? I guess I could just use my website when I'm starting just starting out although it wouldn't be an instant download.
  4. Any advice for a newbie pattern designer?

Scary stuff!

Words of wisdom

If it really was a no-brainer to make it on your own in business there’d be millions of no-brained, harebrained, and otherwise dubiously brained individuals quitting their day jobs and hanging out their own shingles. Nobody would be left to round out the workforce and execute the business plan. – Bill Rancic

Lost in my new iPad

I don't think when Mr Pip bought me an iPad for Mother's Day (well care of the kids that is!) that he would have anticipated loosing me to books!

I actually spent two days in sick after mother's day. Not tired, just aches, sore throat and a bit of a cough. I turned to my new toy to explore and found the wonderful world of iBooks. Ok so I'm a bit slow to this new technology. I'm sure everyone else already has Kindles, iPads etc but I never realised what was available. And lots for free!

I've read more in the last month than I have in the last 5 years (since Master Owlet 5 came along). I've read some awesome and some average books. I've also read a fair bit of crap too lol. One of my friends labeled one of the genres as 'Nanna corn' (can you substitute a p for the c in that word? I didn't want to be caught by spam or come up in some really, really bizarre google searches!).

One find that I have not been able to put down is a series by Nicky Charles - The Mating, The Keeping, The Bonding and Bonded (which is a prequel to the three). Best of all - they are all free.

The Mating
If you like Twilight (which I do!), you will love these stories of werewolves. Not an average romance novel, they twist and turn and carry you on the journey of the Lycans. Honestly, I'm not really into the whole vampire, werewolf thing but these books are so well written, you can't help but love them.

The Keeping
Nicky is an independent writer who just writes as a hobby and not for the big bucks!

The Finding
Do yourself a favour and find these books. I promise you will love them. Well ok, can't promise but if you love Twilight, you should love these!
Bonded
Follow Nicky on Facebook to find out when her next book will be released.

Now if someone could just recommend a good app for updating Blogger from my iPad, I'll be in heaven!

Stopping to admire life

A few weeks ago, I rushed home on the train from work and stopped to pick up a couple of groceries in our little Village (that's what we called it but I do live in the inner city of Melbourne!) before rushing over to pick Master 5 (oh and 3/4 because that is important when you are 5!) from school and Miss 3 from daycare.

I noticed this little rainbow peeking out from the clouds. It was so beautiful. Usually, I would just smile and rush off but for whatever reason I stopped to snap a few pictures on my iPhone.

Sure these pictures don't do it justice (nor does looking through telephone lines to see it!) but it has made me wonder how often we stop to smell the roses, stop to breathe, stop to admire life and all it has to offer us. I know I don't do it often enough.

Have you stopped to admire life recently?
